MTA Group has been awarded the supply contract for the world-renowned training ship Amerigo Vespucci, currently embarking on its global voyage. Over 5,000 fireproof mattresses and 6,000 pillows will support the Italian Navy in ensuring proper rest for its personnel throughout this historic journey.Ever wondered where sailors sleep during long missions at sea?
When it comes to the most beautiful ship in the world, the answer lies in MTA Group’s sleep systems.
Supporting Sailors, Across the Globe
The Piedmont-based company provided high-quality sleeping solutions for more than 300 sailors, including crew and cadets, who will return to Italy in 2025 after 19 months of global circumnavigation. The supply followed a series of tenders issued by the Italian Navy’s General Staff (Maristat) in April 2022, later operationalized by the Naval Squadron Command (CINCNAV) and formally awarded in early 2023.
The project extended beyond the Amerigo Vespucci, also serving key naval bases including Marisud Taranto, Marisicilia, Marinord La Spezia and Maricapitale Rome, with over 5,000 Class 1IM fireproof mattresses and over 6,000 pillows to ensure restful sleep for naval personnel across the country.
Certified Safety, Proven Durability
All supplied mattresses are certified by the Italian Ministry of the Interior (Class 1IM) for fire resistance and passed strict toxic fume emission tests, achieving top safety scores.
Additionally, they exceeded durability benchmarks under EN 1334:1996 norms, including fatigue tests to certify that mattresses are resistant to pressures and time.
We are honored to have had the opportunity to equip the iconic Amerigo Vespucci with our fireproof mattresses,” stated Adriano and Michele Calabrese, founders of MTA Group.
“Our experience in mattress manufacturing allows us to deliver long-lasting, ergonomic and comfortable solutions offering restorative sleep for those who serve our country with dedication and sacrifice. We understand the unique conditions in which naval personnel operate, and our meticulous attention to materials and detail ensures products that meet the highest standards of comfort, hygiene and resilience—even at the far ends of the earth.”
